That was 'hello' in greek, today i want to share my experience when i joined the 51st Lefkas International Folklore Festival in Lefkas and Earthdancers's festival in Athens
First let's talk about the festival in lefkas:
This is the best logo i can find :(
From the web:
International Folklore Festival has been organising for 45 years. It’s an institution that promotes, since its foundation in 1952 from Antonis Tzevelekis until nowdays, the idea of peace, friendship, fraternity and solidarity of the people worldwide, with folklore forms of art, dance and music. This is achieved with the rich tradition and the recognised folklore codes of expression and communication.
International Folklore Festival of Lefkada is the most ancient cultural constitution of our country, in dance and music of the traditional heritage worldwide with Pan Hellenic and international recognition.
From the language of fantasy and creativity, people of the world meet for 45 continuous years, in August, in Lefkada exchanging their precious heritage: The creations of spiritual and artistic expressions according to their tradition. In order to continue, and from the language of creation and cooperation, do have the right to be different.
Art softens the political, economical and cultural differences. The Festival takes place on the last week of August (from a Sunday to Sunday), starting with a huge parade of peace and friendship, the evening opening celebration (1st Sunday) with the few minutes presentation of the groups, their formal presentation, during week and the magnificent ending ceremony, the exchanges of gifts and the dance of peace.
Participations:
For the last 4 decades, in Folklore Festival have participated hundreds of groups from all over Europe and Greece. We could mention thousands of foreign and local artists: dancers, musicians, singers etc.

This is the first time that my campus's dance club went overseas to performed also the first year that the club is officially made, so you can only imagine how proud we were when we step our feet for the first time in athens...and saw our country's flag in other country that is so far away (it took us almost more 24 hours to get to lefkas)
[First Sunrise in Istanbul before we made our final transit to Athena after 13 hours on plane]
[Around the Athena's international airport]
["Look!! Indonesian flag!!" as we shouted in tears when our bus passed through the entrance of the island]
[On the ferry ride to Lefkas Island, behind the most expensive bridge we ever saw,
around 800 rupiahs to went across it]
[this is the place we stayed for 10 days, it's a school that turned into dorm]
[The room,wee weren't always this messy!!i swear!!!
it just happened to be messy when i took this photo]
[me putting on make up on our guide, Mado]
[Final look! it's a traditional padang costume for the plate dance]
[The city centre, so beautiful i felt like i was on a telenovela]
[found spongebob's house!!]
[The restaurant that provided our diner, diner is at 6...we're not used to it at first :P]
[The foods, pretty much the same everyday, the main ingredients are olive oil, olives, oregano, and we also got a greek salad and watermelon or grapes for the sidedishes and dessert :D we only got break fast with only milk, cofee, and bread with jams everyday and then diner at 6, so we had to cook our lunch, i was the cook btw ;D]
[these are literally the best crepe and waffles i ever tasted in my whole life!!!!]
[the beach near the city centre]
[wire artist, he made accessories with only a wire]
[my name in greek]
[Souvlaki, hope i spelled it correctly, this is the best pork skewers ever!
i bought it on the cruise ship that we got]
[the beach near the portokatsiki, very beautiful]
[the cruise ship that we rode]
We got a cruise ship for 10 euros per person, and the cruise are so fun! we had the best time there, the beaches are so beautiful, the pork souvlaki are the best!!! we got to see dolphins, swim, shop, ate some delicious cuisine, just delightful!
[lefkas wine, only around 200 rupiahs for all this XD they have a rose wine XD]
[traditional greek sandals, soo cute! XD]
[funny story behind this pasta: 4 of my friends wasn't the best at english language, and they misunderstood when ordering a pasta, the thought they got 4 pastas for 25 euros, but what the waiter thought was they want to order 4 pastas that costed 25 euros!! and so the had to pay the most expensive pasta they ever had...and they got known as the 100 euro gang lol]

Okay that's enough chattering, let's talk about the festival!!
to join the festival all you have to do is register at the website that i put on the beginning of this post
it already covers the accommodation, medical, and meals, as for the additional attraction like the cruise, we had to pay extra 10 euros, the festival started at 18 and ended at 28[if i'm not mistaken] they always have this festival at the end of summer, and it's always 10 days, there's a legend about it but sadly i forgot....:(
[with chinese dancers]
[with the russian]
[practice~]
[before parading]
[pakarena dance]
[saman dance]
[piring cupak]
We performed 7 traditional dances, betawi, gaba-gaba, japin, pakarena, piring cupak, saman and putri enggang , we also get to learn the traditional dance of greece, and 4 of our dancers had to perform it with all of the other countries for the closing
[all the dancers]
In this festival we have to perform whenever we're asked to, most of the performances are scheduled, there was one unscheduled performance, but that's it they even apologise before because it's too sudden, we also have to do the festival dance across the island all the way to the stage, to attract the tourist, and we stopped in the middle of the road and perform a short 3x8 dance moves, with live instrument (can't find the pictures though T^T)
Funny facts : when they're announcing the winner we were just finished our closing dance for the festival (we are the closing dance for the event) and...well honestly it didn't go so well...the opening of the dance is a little bit messy and our choreographer is kinda upset...so we were all bummed and just self loathed ourself while the emcee's announcing the winner, one of our member heard the emcee said "Indonesia" and there was applauses, but none of us know that we were mentioned because we won, we only thought that we're called as one of the performer,so no one cheered...then they called Russia and lastly Serbia and the applauses are getting louder plus the Russian and Serbian dancer are cheering so happily, THAT'S when we started to get suspicious and we started to asking "why are they so happy that they countries got called?did they win?or are they just so proud of their countries?and why did the emcee stopped calling all the participants?" Then FINALLY our translator plus guide, Mr.Alex Kar with our Lecturer come and said that we won 3rd place! It's like 15 minutes after the announcement and we automatically cheered and cried....it's kinda embarrassing considering how slow our reactions are LOL
Wohoo~ third place baby!! and there are 18 amazing competitors too! #proud
for the last day in lefkas i went over all over the places that we spent a lot to gave souvenirs for the store owners
[cried a lot when we left]
this is the first festival i ever joined...it's really memorable...i wish i could join the festival again, the 10 days in lefkas will always imprinted in my heart thank you so much to god and every body for this opportunity and the great memories :')
i'm so proud to be a part of this trip, to be able to introduce your country's identity to the world....to be able to win an international competition...to be able to wave the Indonesia's flag alongside other country...to be able to sung the national anthem....there's no word to describe how we all feel...i hope indonesia's traditional dance and art will be more well known...and the indonesian also appreciate their culture more...because we have a lot of amazing and beautiful cultures and arts guys!!! be proud of your country, there are still a lot of kid said that traditional dance are lame and geeky which made me sad :(
is there any of the reader ever went on a dance trip too? please do share! :D
